One of the events I look forward to the most each year is the MET Gala in New York City. Each year a long list of Hollywood’s most elite attend the ball at the MET showcasing the latest exhibition. The fashion is always stunning, and this year was no exception. Check out some of my favourite looks from this year’s event this evening:
I can only imagine the pressure one must feel when they’re the daughter of the reigning fashion queen Anna Wintour herself. But Bee Shaffer effortlessly hit the mark in this elaborately detailed, blood red gown by Alexander McQueen. The custom oriental inspired embroidery is simply stunning, and the huge bird motif on the train really amped up the drama of this look. Perfection!
Carey Mulligan opted or an all black look by Balenciaga featuring an ornate neck piece and architectural hem. The curved hi-low hemline featured a short, round train at the pack of the dress, adding interest to an otherwise sleek and simple look. Overall this dress had a very innovative take on a regal vibe.
Diane Kruger chose the pant suit route, and it was a great decision on her part. The classic Chanel vibe was present as pale pastel pink met sparkling gold details. I loved the asymmetrical cape at the back and the great mix of textures within the pieces. So soft and feminine!
Karolina Kurkova took inspiration from the latest exhibit with a Tommy Hilfiger dress inspired by Chinese fashion. The bright cherry red and gold detailing paired with wide sleeves and stand up collar put a modern twist on classic cultural dress. I love the layers of the skirt and the length kept the look fun and fresh.
Maggie Q chose one of this season’s hottest trends, an all white ensemble. This pant and tunic pairing is by Tory Burch. With metallic detailing down the sides this look was clean and chic, yet eye catching and bold. Perfect for the occasion!
This gorgeous hand painted gown by J. Mendel couture was spotted on Olivia Munn. I must say, it was simply breath taking! Bold colours flowed together to create a striking colour palette, paired with a dramatic neckline and sleeves. Her sleek hair and makeup really matched the mood this dress created. I’m a fan!
Finally, Poppy Deleveign in Marchesa. How fabulous are the silk flowers elegantly dotting the bodice of this dress? I love the black and red combination, and the overall flowy feel of this gown gave her an effortless glow. One of the more daring looks, but a success none the less.
Which looks were you loving tonight? I always love hearing about them! Anyone else counting down the days till next year’s event? See you soon, -Cydney
