From pajamas in public to super sparkly cocktail dresses, Selena Gomez taught us a thing or two about street style this past month.
Whether she was attending fashion shows or meeting for her Revival press tour, the parade of cute outfits just did not stop.
At one point she was sporting multiple show stopping looks in a single day, leaving the rest of us feeling there must be some elusive formula to create outfits like the ever stylish Ms.Gomez.
Although I havn’t come to find the aforementioned formula, I have broken down what made each of Selena’s looks so successful:
Where do I even begin with this look!? The sleeves, the colour, the fabric, that belt! Also, her hair and makeup. WOW. Just wow (2 years of fashion school and this is the most creative commentary of an outfit I can come up with…good job Cydney).
Selena, or Jennifer Aniston circa 1995? Selena opted for a look inspired by the a-list actress, pairing a skinny scarf (a mega trend right now) with a midi length, fitted black dress featuring a wide v-neck. “Effortlessy chic” are the first words to come to mind. I imagine Selena in her hotel room throwing this on and strutting out the door, not even requiring a glance in the mirror because she looks THAT good. *Don’t try this at home folks!
That moment when you could honestly say “I woke up like this”. Selena isn’t afraid to take fashion risks, and that’s another key factor in her out of this world street style. She plays with fashion! This pajama-esque ensemble is one of my absolute favorites on her, because she looks so stylish in an undone, natural way. The satin pjs paired with bright red heels create a very posh look that seems almost as if Ms.Gomez rolled out of bed looking this glam. What’s that? She didn’t? I don’t believe it…
Selena knows a good coat and a good dress are two key components to a successful street style wardrobe. Combine the two and you’ve created the ultimate outfit goals. Selena paired this city chic sleeveless dress with opaque black tights and chunky heels, creating a streamlined, sophisticated look.
Sugar and spice and everything nice, that’s what this outfit is made of. Selena toned down the glam if only for a moment to don this flirty midi skirt and crop top while in Paris. They grey scale and thick, knit fabrics gave a very cozy, fall vibe to her look, even while showing a tad bit of skin with her cropped top. The songstress even tied a little black bow in her braid for some added Parisian flair.
Never one to miss out on the trends, Selena hops on the 70;s inspired band wagon with a cherry red coat complete with floral applique and matching skirt. I’ve already been dreaming of waking up as Selena Gomez one day, but now I REALLY want to because it would mean I would own this look in my closet.
The skinny scarf strikes again! Selena knows leopard print is a girls best friend, and opted to spice up this gorgeous emerald, a-line dress with a pretty pair of printed pumps (say that three times fast). I love the sheer detailing at the shoulders, and of course she had to add a big pair of sunnies for even more glam factor.
Accessories reign supreme in this final look by Selena. A simple black ensemble is taken to the next level with a pair of peek-a-boo shoes, a bold clutch, and a darling black and white, wide brimmed hat. Proof that you don’t have to go completely over the top to create an impact with your look.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, “when in doubt, just add glitter.” Selena kept her black tights and shoes and swapped out her minimalist coat inspired dress for a bold sequined number. How often do we see sequined plaid? I don’t know your daily lifestyle, but I’m going to say not very often. I love how the sparkles took this classic print and kicked it up a notch.
Black and red seemed to be a bit of a theme for Ms.Gomez in the weeks past, but hey! If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. This girl knows what looks good on her, and that’s part of what makes her looks so succesful. The fit of this dress was perfection on Selena, and the turtle neck in a contrasting colour really added to the otherwise simple design. In my opinion, her luscious locks really made this look. I am still in the process of attempting to make my hair look half as good as this. It’s a work in progress…
For the ultimate sophisticated look. drapey, luxurious cocktail dresses are a must. Ms.Gomez took this advice to heart when she stepped out in this lovely satin number. The midi length and assymetrical cape up top gave off such chic, classy, “I’m having tea with the queen” vibes. Because we all need a “having tea with the queen” look. Am I right ladies?
