October Mood Board

Warm hues, soft florals and lots of texture fill my mind’s eye this season. Layers of pretty vintage silhouettes paired with suede accessories, working together to create the perfect look for frolicking in Central Park among the red and orange leaves. Coffee stops at the cutest cafes are a must, featuring everything cinnamon and spice of course. I bundle up as I look forward to the chillier air.

Fall, you are welcome here.

The New Classic with Warby Parker

“What do you get when you mix acetate and polished metal, put them in a time machine programmed to the year 1955, and refresh them for 2017? These.” – Warby Parker

This just in: Warby Parker has the latest and greatest in eye wear to share with us, and it includes a trip back to 1955.

Retro silhouettes meet modern materials in this “of the moment” collection freshly launched by the revolutionary eye wear company.

Made for the everyday guy and gal these vintage shades and eye glasses not only come in several instagram worthy styles and colour ways, they won’t leave your wallet feeling empty.  Warby Parker aims to deliver quality glasses without the astronomical pricing, and they’ve done just that.

Looking for some reasons to justify purchasing a few new pairs? Take some inspiration from the looks I curated below with some of my favourites:

Look 1: A pop of cobalt with Addie

How fun is the summery hue of these sunnies? Paired with a muted, monochromatic look these shades are sure to be the center of attention. Throw in a pop of yellow for an added bit of zest. The only thing cooler than this look is the iced mojito you’ll be sipping while you sport it.

Look 2: That’s A Wrap with Eliot

There’s nothing more lovely than a wrap dress for summer! Here, a simple black and white print is rejuvenated with a geometric straw bag, casual everyday sneakers, and of course, vintage-esque specs that make your look a total throwback to the carefree summers of the 50’s. The tortoise shell pattern on these glasses is bold enough to add depth to your look while still being neutral enough to remain versatile. The ideal accessory when looking to spice up a simple, classic look.

Ready to add some 1950’s vibes into your wardrobe?

I’ll see you there.

June Mood Board

June Mood Board

Warm hues, bleached denim and bold prints take center stage as Summer kicks off, full force. Think sunshine, sunflowers and everything 70’s-esque. Skate shoes and bold makeup add modern twists, while paisleys and vintage accesories keep things rooted in a retro theme. Maybe it’s the warmer weather or maybe it’s the onset of festival season, but something has me nostalgic for a groovier time. Bring on the flared pants and fringe galore.

Trail blazer: spring 2015 lookbook

It’s almost here!

Spring will soon be upon us, and I’m already dreaming of sunny days, fresh flowers, and sun dresses.

To kick start the new season I have my newest lookbook to share with you all today, featuring looks for Spring!

I present, Trail blazer, a free-spirited,earthy Spring shoot. The innocence of youth meets rustic bohemian vibes in the setting of a cedar forest to create a laid back, care-free look that’s all the rage this season. Fringe, neutral tones and light-wash denim are the focal points of this look, as girls are encouraged to embrace their fun loving side and forget about their daily worries just long enough to take a frolic through the forest.

The Ellie Suit

I don’t know about you, but the first thing that comes to mind when I think of swimsuits is bone chilling rain and December.

Jokes, that’s not true at all.

But despite the unfitting weather, my fashion design class was hard at work on swim suits last month.

Before the Christmas break, we finished off our third semester of fashion design with a swim wear project. Each of us was responsible for designing and constructing a suit, cover-up, and swim wear catalog.

This was one of my favourite projects so far, and I’m really happy with how my suit turned out.

es

The Ellie suit is bubbly, frilly, and fun. Designed for a junior contemporary market, the Ellie suit encompasses all the fun of being a girl, while incorporating neon colours, a flirty silhouette, and just a little bit of sparkle.

Now all I need is some warm weather, a beach house, a pina colada, and a cute life guard to create the perfect scenario to wear my suit.

What’s that you say? I live in Vancouver?

Can’t a girl at least dream?

Hope some sunshine comes your way,

Winter Lookbook

title graphicLast week we got our first snowfall here on the West coast!

It was by no means a blizzard, but it definitely put me in a cozy, holiday state of mind.

Today I’ll be sharing with you guys some Winter looks with help from my lovely friends at Rue La La!

Two of my biggest Winter wardrobe staples are denim and boots. They’re the most stylish way to keep warm and cozy on those cold Winter days when you’re out and about.

Just my luck, this Winter Rue La La has compiled two super detailed lookbooks for both denim and boots, that can help any girl find her perfect fit!

Below are some of my favourite ways to style these two key pieces:

Look 1: Cozy and Casual

Nothing says casual to me more than a pair of slouchy boyfriend jeans. My favourite boot for this style of denim is a cropped, chuncky boot. Keeping with the "borrowed from the boys" vibe this look encapsulates I addded an oversized plaid shirt and a cozy knit circle scarf for a touch of femininity. Perfect for running errands or relaxing with friends.

Look 2: Glammed Up

A skinny pair of black jeans is a glam girls best friend. They're so versatile you can get away with styling them so many different ways. Here I went for a dressier look, choosing to pair them with some posh caged booties with gold buckle detailing on the sides. Up top I opted for this boxy checkered sweater. I love the contrast of the boxy fit with the skinny jean. To glam the look up I added a gold chain necklace and of course, my favourite accessory in the Winter, a black floppy hat.

Look 3: Pattern Play

This look is so fun! These paisley combat boots are a dream! To keep the look fun and playful I paired them with a straight legged jean and cuffed it at the bottom. Up top I chose an oversized cream sweater to keep the attention on the boots, and threw on a dropped pendant arrow necklace to make sure the top half of the look wasn't too plain.

Up top I chose an oversized cream sweater to keep the attention on the boots, and threw on a dropped pendant arrow necklace for just a little bit of bling.

Look 4: The Classic

Plain and Simple
Every girl needs a good pair of black riding boots in the Winter time. They’re a great go-to style for a classic look. When opting for a tall boot, the skinnier the jean the better. The less bulk you have to cram into those tall boots, the more polished and sleek your look will be. For this look I chose a dark wash pair of skinny jeans to compliment the dark boots. Up top I have a super cozy poncho with some black stripe detailing at the hem. I am over the moon that ponchos are coming back people. They are seriously THE most comfortable thing ever. Finally I added a little quilted crossbody bag for an additional detail up top.

Look 5: The More the Merrier

The more layers the better in my opinion! I;m forever freezing, so I love to pile on the clothing when I'm going out in the cold weather. The jeans for this look are a pair of super distressed boyfriend jeans. Note that they're a little slimmer than the ones from the first look,. This makes them slightly more figure flattering. To go with them I chose a pair of sand coloured chelsea boots. I cannot get enough of this style of boot. I'm obsessed! They're just so darn cute! I especially love them with a cuffed jean. To finish the look off I chose to layer a cream cable knit sweater underneath this beautiful olive vest with the cutest toggle detailing down the front closure. The perfect look for going Christmas shopping or for picking out the perfect tree with loved ones!

Ebony: Fall 2014

It’s finally here.

Crisp leaves, cozy sweaters, pumpkin spice flavored everything.

And if you live in Vancouver, a very large umbrella as well.

Tomorrow marks the first official day of Fall and I couldn’t be more excited! We got a bit of an extended Summer here on the West Coast, but I must say, I was looking forward to the cooler weather.

To celebrate the change of season I have something awesome to share with you guys: my first ever photoshoot!

I give you, Ebony, a Fall lookbook styled by yours truly.

The deep blacks, whites, and blues play off of each other to create a muted colour pallet reminiscent of the fall sky and the basic pieces are layered to demonstrate the beauty of carefully orchestrated simplicity, all captured in a serene, natural setting to emphasize the overall organic feel of the collection.

I hope you guys enjoy!

Happy Fall!

Behind the Catwalk: Backstage at Absolute Style 2014

As of last night I am officially done my first year of fashion school!

*insert hallelujah chorus here*

I had an amazing first two semesters with amazing people and I’m very thankful for the relaxing break I get before heading back for my graduating year.

Each year the graduating class presents their pieces along with a final collection in a large scale fashion show at the end of their last semester. As a first year student I have the opportunity to work backstage during the show, helping with the models and dressing.

Last night was the big show and I must say, I had a blast. We did a matinee at 2:00 followed by an evening show at 7:00. The whole thing  was a great learning experience. I was taught all about what goes into a show, as well as what a professional backstage atmosphere feels like.

My job was to dress a group of four models. This means I was in charge of a rack of numbered outfits and my responsibility was to ensure each model got out of their previous outfit and into their next one on time and with all the correct pieces, accessories, and shoes. The graduating designers also gave us input on how they wanted their garments to be styled for the runway, and as a dresser it was my job to replicate their desires  on the models I was assisting.

Although chaotic at times, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The models were fantastic and this years graduating class created amazing looks for the show. I honestly loved them all! Below are some pictures of the whole backstage experience, as well as some pictures of rehearsals. The pictures were provided to me by the University of the Fraser Valley, so all credit goes to their photography team.

Next year I’ll be out from behind the scenes and my collection will be featured in the show! I’m both super duper excited and terrified. I can’t believe I’ll be graduating as a designer this time next year!

With school out I’ve got lots of posts planned, and finally time to write them!

Come back soon!

Valentines Day Lookbook

Hey everyone! Hope you’re week is going well.

Today’s post is all about valentines day!….don’t tell me you didn’t see that coming.

I’m hopping on the band wagon and dedicating a post to this lovely holiday of hearts and pink. A fashion post, to be exact. I’ve put together 4 different valentines day looks for 4 different styles. Hopefully you guys can draw some inspiration from these outfits to aid in your search for the perfect V-day look!

All of these outfits can be easily recreated with items you already have in your closet, or purchased fairly inexpensively.  This particular lookbook was meant more for inspiration, so I didn’t want to bog it down with lists of store names and prices. However, if you want to know where anything’s from, just comment below! I’m more than happy to share it with you!

graphic

Look #1: Girly

1
This look is for all those girls that love to look pretty in pink. This tulle skirt is so romantic. I balanced it out with a casual cream coloured sweater to tone the look down, then added a beautiful crystal bib necklace to add some sparkle! The soft pink ballet flats make the look comfy and add an effortless feel. I’d personally pair this with a top knot and a soft pink lip.

Look #2: Casual

2
The perfect outfit for a casual date night, this outfit starts with a comfy pair of boyfriend jeans. On top I added a cute heart printed graphic tee, then layered a black moto jacket over it to spice it up a little bit, as well as add some warmth since it is February. A cute little pair of white converse are the perfect way to finish off this look. I’d personally pair this look with some messy curls and a bright red lip.

Look #3: Edgy

3
I know there’s girls out there that really don’t care for all the frill and sparkles that Valentines Day brings. This look is for you. I started with this simple maroon coloured dress. The neckline has some really fun leather detailing. I added some black tights and black buckle booties to the bottom, and finished the look off with a set of leather studded hair bows. Edgy, with just a slight feminine touch. I’d love to wear this look with a side braid and a matching maroon lip.

Look #4: Glamorous

4
Finally, a look for all you major fashionistas out there. If you want to look glam this Valentines Day then this looks just what you need. The look is centered around a big grey fur vest. Underneath it I put a simple, white, long sleeved shirt. For bottoms I chose a pair of leather looking pants. The shoes are a pair of leather booties with a low heel. To add one last pop of glam I added a gold, chain link necklace up top. To me, this look screams big curls and bright red lips.

And there you go! I hope this post helped spark some valentines day creativity in your closet.

Have a great rest of the week, and a wonderful Valentines Day,

Cydney
